***BEST OF 2018***
The semi-staged concert production of Chess that I saw this year was, without exaggeration, the best show I've seen in years. Maybe one of the best ever?
Put it this way --- the last time I felt like that was when I saw Hamilton in previews on Broadway.
It starred Karen Olivo, Raúl Esparza, Ramin Karimloo, and Ruthie Ann Miles. It also featured a surprise scene-stealing performance from Bryce Pinkham and (another surprise!) dancing boys in the ensemble.
